How To Transfer Documents into Conference Pad

Conference Pad displays PDF files.

If the presentation or document you are going to view in Conference Pad is not a PDF file, a conversion process is necessary. For Powerpoint and Keynote files, this process can be performed automatically via Conference Pad Loader (Mac OS X only, requires Apple Keynote for Mac installed). In all other cases, you can convert the file manually. 

Please select your operating system and then the type of file below for step-by-step instructions:

  • macOS and Mac OS X
    • PDF File
      • Wirelessly with Finder (macOS Catalina and above):
        1. In Finder, open a a new window and select your device from the lefthand column after enabling 'Show when on Wi-Fi'.
        2. Select the Files tab.
        3. Drag the PDF file(s) into the Conference Pad section
      • Wirelessly with Conference Pad Loader:
        1. Download and run Conference Pad Loader
        2. Ensure your device (iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch) is on the same wireless network as your Mac
        3. Launch Conference Pad on your device
        4. Select your device by name within Conference Pad Loader
        5. Select the PDF file(s)
        6. Files will be wirelessly transferred to Conference Pad
      • Via USB with Finder (macOS Catalina and above):
        1. Plug your device into your computer.
        2. In Finder, open a a new window and select your device from the lefthand column.
        3. Select the Files tab.
        4. Drag the PDF file(s) into the Conference Pad section
      • Via USB with iTunes (macOS Catalina and above):
        1. Plug your iPad into your computer.
        2. Load iTunes and select your iPad.
        3. Select the Apps tab.
        4. Scroll down to File Transfer.
        5. Select Conference Pad.
        6. Select the PDF file(s)
    • Keynote or Powerpoint presentation with Apple Keynote for Mac OS X installed
      • Wirelessly:
        1. Download and run Conference Pad Loader
        2. Ensure your device (iPad, iPhone, or iPod Touch) is on the same wireless network as your mac
        3. Launch Conference Pad on your device
        4. Select your device by name within Conference Pad Loader
        5. Select the Keynote or Powerpoint file(s)
        6. Keynote will automatically launch, convert the file(s) under Conference Pad Loader's control, and quit
        7. Files will be wirelessly transferred to Conference Pad
    • Powerpoint presentation without Apple Keynote installed
      1. Convert the Powerpoint presentation to PDF
        1. Open the file in Powerpoint
        2. From the File menu, select Save As...
        3. In the Format: dropdown, select PDF
        4. Save the file to a location of your choice, such as your desktop
      2. Transfer the PDF file via the steps under 'PDF' above
    • Any other file type
      1. Convert the file to PDF
        1. Open the file in its application
        2. From the File menu, select Print
        3. Click the PDF button and select Save as PDF...
        4. Save the file to a location of your choice, such as your desktop
      2. Transfer the PDF file via the steps under 'PDF' above
  • Windows
    • PDF File
      1. Plug your iPad into your computer.
      2. Load iTunes and select your iPad.
      3. Select the Apps tab.
      4. Scroll down to File Transfer.
      5. Select Conference Pad.
      6. Select the PDF file(s)
    • Powerpoint Presentation
      1. You'll need to install the Microsoft Save as PDF Office Add-in if you don't already have it
      2. Load the presentation
      3. From the File menu, select Save As
      4. In the Save as type dropdown, select PDF
      5. Save the file to a known location, then transfer it via the 'PDF' steps above
    • Any other file
      1. You'll need to install a PDF printer if you don't already have one. We recommend the free and open source PDF Creator .
      2. Load the file in its program
      3. From the File menu, select Print
      4. In the Print dialogue, select the PDF printer
      5. Save the file to a known location, then transfer it via the 'PDF' steps above
  • iOS (iPhone, iPad, or iPod Touch)
    • From your iOS device, you can open any PDF file in Conference Pad from any application which supports Open With . This includes Mail, GoodReader, DropBox, and many others.
    • This unfortunately does not include Keynote itself, in which Apple allows you to export to a PDF only to an email or to iTunes. You can, however, export to email, send that email to yourself, and then open the PDF in Conference Pad via Mail's Open With button.
